Line Sculptures

1st and 2nd Grade

Students learned about different kinds of lines and how to transform paper to make a 3-dimensional line sculpture.

Students began the project looking at examples of lines in art, school, animals, neighborhoods. They learned that lines — zig-zag, curved, wavy, and straight, etc — can be found all around them. They practiced manipulating paper to create different lines, using techniques such as twisting, bending, folding and feathering. They learned that paper can be transformed from being 2D (flat) to 3D (seen from all sides).
